This month, Chad discusses how Applicant Tracking Systems are catering to mobile phones.

No longer is the mobile phone viewed as a mere utility. Instead, people are now seeing their mobile phone as a natural extension of the desktop computing experience they’ve become accustomed to. Email and a near desktop internet experience are as accessible to them as the pocket holding their mobile phone. With that accessibility comes a whole new world of expectations, not all of which translate into the mobile space as predicted.

As companies such as Google, Microsoft and Apple bring smarter phones with intuitive interfaces to market; users are beginning to expect increasingly more functionality from mobile phones. While the current technology hasn't completely translated this into a seamless desktop web experience, applicant tracking systems are beginning to leverage what mobile has to offer now and beyond.

With current Applicant Tracking System vendors such as Taleo and Kenexa/Brassring looking to leverage the power and flexibility in today’s Smartphone, new possibilities appear on the horizon in the form of more engaging platforms designed to attract passive candidates as well as attract active candidates who are being exposed to new forms of mobile branding.

I have been fortunate to have a long and diverse career. Although I really wanted to be a fashion designer and had a brief moment of wanting to be a nun in the sixth grade (loved the long black flowing uniforms) I am lucky to have found the right path for me. As a result, I have worked in a variety of jobs for terrific companies with great people.

The Net Generation: Ready to Transform Your Workplace

The Net Generation grew up digital. Along with the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Rio Environmental of Summit of 1992 and 9/11, they rank the iPod among their defining moments. To help you understand their impact, the White House and Department of Defense have completed a comprehensive study of their demographics, norms and why government needs them.

The report, entitled Net Generation: Preparing for Change in the Federal Information Technology Workforce says that Federal IT leaders will need to borrow tactics from the private sector to recruit talented young employees for the government's growing IT workforce. It also focuses on how to manage institutional changes brought about by rapidly changing technologies, (eventually) retiring Baby Boomers and the rising influence of the "Net Generation.”
